Islamabad, Oct 08 (Online): President Pakistan Muslim League (PML), Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has condemned awarding of death penalty by the War Tribunal of Bangladesh also to United Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Fazlul Quauder Chowdhury's son and Member Bangladesh Parliament Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury.

He said that about these sentences, questions are also being raised at the international level whether by making new law old events can be termed as crime and punishment also awarded on the basis of old events because this is an established principle that sentence can only be awarded in a crime about which the law is there when it is committed.

PML President further said that defending the country cannot be made basis of crime and sentence pronounced, sentences awarded to all leaders including Salahuddin Quader and Professor Ghulam Azam should be annulled, he added.

“If there is any case then an international court should be established and the case presented before it”, he suggested.

He expressed his concerns over the failure of election tribunals to decide over the filed petitions within stipulated 120 days, expressing that he did not foresee any verdicts coming even in coming 5 years.
