Indo-Pak trucks cross ‘Amman Bridge’ for bilateral trade

CHINARI, Oct 08 (Online): Bilateral trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad has been reinstated after the 35th day of meeting between Indo-Pak Prime Ministers in New York.

Details said, on Tuesday 70 goods forwarding trucks crossed ‘Amman Bridge’ from Chakothi crossing point of Line of Control (LoC). This bilateral trade will continue for 3 more days.

While in next week trade will be stopped because of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations. From Azad Kashmir 25 trucks entered to Occupied Kashmir while from there 45 trucks entered in Pakistan.

Bilateral trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad was suspended since September 02, when Indian Ministry of Commerce imposed restriction on ‘Made in Pakistan’ products during the tension between both countries.

But after the meeting of Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan in New York on September 29, Indian Central Home Ministry announced to uplift the ban on ‘Made in Pakistan’ products.

Indian Home Ministry also announced to reinstate the bilateral trade following the trade list as per 2008 bilateral trade agreement between India and Pakistan.

After the announcement of Indian Home Minister, on the ‘Amman Bridge’ of LoC, authorities from both sides held the meeting and decided to reinstate the bilateral trade from October 8.

The trade will continue for 3 more days including Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, while trade activities in trade centers of both sides have again breathed in fresh air after the reinstatement of bilateral trade.

Trade union LoC Azad Kashmir, drivers, laborers and traders have welcomed this decision stating that such decisions will provide employment opportunities to the people of both sides.
