ISLAMABAD, Oct 18 (Online): The picnic spots of the Federal Capital remained jam pack during the Eid holidays, as those left behind in the city tried to make the best of the occasion.
A large number of people converged on all picnic spots of the city including Rawal Lake, Daman-e-Koh, Shakarparian, Rose and Jasmine Garden, and Lake View Park in the foothills of Margalla Hills. People were out to enjoy Eid holidays, which are almost a week long, instead of remaining at homes.
With almost everybody trying to get as close to the destination as possible, the spots seemed choked with traffic. The worst was the situation on the Murree Highway starting from Faizabad interchange to well beyond Bhara Kahu. Besides, visiting to local parks, a large number of people went to hill station (Murree).
Parking lots at the recreational spots were full to the capacity. Long queues of vehicles were seen with motorists waiting to find a place to park. The partially opened restaurants and food outlets received huge number of visitors.
While talking to ONLINE, Muhammad Kamran, who was along with his family at Shakarparian, said, “First two days of Eid were spent in sacrifices, so on the third day I got the opportunity to spend some time with his family in the recreational spotsâ€.
However, apart of picnic spots, the city of strangers presented deserted look in the third day as majority of markets remained closed, while the public transport was also seen less in number because of the fewer passengers.
Anum, a girl, said she along the family had come all the way from Gujranwala to celebrate Eid with grandparents in Islamabad. “We’re enjoying a lot,†she said during a visit to Daman-e-Koh.
The people also complained against fruit and vegetable sellers who fleeced the public in the twin cities during Eid days and charged prices of their own, violating the rates provided to them by the Market Committees or price magistrates.
