Cabinet meets tomorrow: Talks with Taliban on agenda

ISLAMABAD Oct 24 (Online): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is presently in the United States, has summoned a meeting of the federal cabinet for Oct 26.

According to Media Reports, premier would take the cabinet into confidence over his visit to America and his meetings with US President Barack Obama, US Secretary of State John Kerry and US National Security Advisor Susan Rice.

The cabinet, in its coming meeting, is also scheduled to discuss the issue of holding talks with the Pakistani Taliban. In September, political parties represented in the parliament had affirmed their support for the federal government so it may initiate “talks with militants”.

Moreover, the operation against criminal elements in Karachi is also on the agenda of the cabinet along with discussions on a strategy to address the country’s energy requirements as well as on the state of the economy.

The prime minister will return to Pakistan tomorrow after a week-long stay in the US to brief the cabinet and is likely to depart for the United Kingdom on Oct 28.
