QUETTA, Nov 1 (Online): Six coal miners were shot dead while another was injured in Mach area of Kachi district – about 90 kilometers off Quetta – on Friday.

According to a Levies official, a group of armed men opened fire at a vehicle carrying coalminers, killing two people on the spot. “The victims belonged to Hazara community and were Shia Muslims. It could be sectarian targeted killing,” he added.

Deputy Commissioner Kachi also confirmed the incident adding that it would be premature to say it was sectarian targeted killing. “The victims are coalminers. The coalminers in Mach belonged to different ethnicity, including Hazara,” he said.

“The coalminers were returning to the coal fields after making a purchase from Mach Bazaar,” he added.
