Workers safety paramount at workshops

QUETTA Nov 3 (PPI): Skilled workers and technicians are most valuable part of human capital for a good corporation which should provide them safety knowledge at work through training and education as its core responsibility, said Khayyam Hussain, Managing Director of Automobile Corporation of Pakistan.
Addressing a ceremony held recently on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) titled “Distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) & Awareness Session on Safety”, he said every workers and technicians should be given training of self-safety and defense from dangers and risks at workshops and factories because they are irreparable asset of a corporation and country in contrast to heavy machinery and different tools.
Creating awareness regarding safety at workshops among workers should be paramount responsibility of owners of any businesses because talented laborers make factories and workshops and then machines and equipments.
There was lack of information regarding dangers of work. We are trying to deliver whatever we have learnt in past 40 years” he said. The trailers and tanks were made since 1984. “We have learnt a lot about safety from technical experts of multinational companies, Shell and Total, he said. Now we have the mission to communicate this information to other people.
Ms. Zehra Raza, Manager Human Resources of Automobile Corporation of Pakistan said that he initiated an awareness campaign as social corporate responsibility to educate the workshop workers about safety measures in a same manner as it is being practices at his company.
Nasir Malik, ISO consultant, pointed out the culture of follow principles of safety is not observed in PakistanÂ’s industrial sector as workers are unaware grossly the importance of crucial safety and self-defense training.
He said lack of training and awareness cause disability among workers or even loss of precious lives at workshop. An accident of a worker in a factory is not just associated with him but the entrepreneur also has to face financial, work loss and other problem as well, he added.
