Japan to provide 70 mln for social development projects in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Nov 04 (Online): The government of Japan has decided to extend financial support of 70 million rupees to seven Pakistani NGOs for social development projects in different parts of the country.

Sources privy to the development told Online that in terms of sectoral distribution financial assistance will be provided for four projects of education, two of health and one for provision of water supply. The formal agreement for these projects will be signed on 6th Nov and 7th Nov between H.E Hiroshi Inomata Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and the heads of the organization.

The source told US$ 113,903 will be provided for the project for the construction of two mother and child health centres in villages of Nowshera Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, US$74,819 will be provided for provision of medical equipment in mother and child health centres in district Muzaffargarh.

Another amount of US$ 107,737 will be utilized for improvement of the water supply and sanitation system in district Haripur while US$ 115,733 would be disbursed for construction of girls middle school in village Kawai in district Mansehra.

The source further appraised that government of Japan would provide financial assistance of US$ 91,972 for construction of primary school in Khyber agency; US$ 113,264 would be disbursed for the expansion of the girls school and the construction of the vocational training centre in district Hafizabad in Punjab. Similarly, US$ 120,069 would be given for construction of primary school in Dhirkot in District Bagh.

This amount will be provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). It is pertinent to mention here that this program was initiated in 1989 and more than 311 projects have been supported with a total grant assistance of around 2.2 billion Japanese Yen.
