Police fail to control mounting crime rate in Capital

ISLAMABAD, Nov 20 (INP): The incidents of car lifting, mobile and purse snatching, robbery, theft and other crimes have increased many folds in the federal capital putting a question mark on the performance of police and other law enforcing agencies.
According to statistics gathered from the police stations, vehicles worth Rs3 billion were stolen in the district during last five months. Car lifting incidents are on the rise in the jurisdictions of Margalla, Ramna, I-9 and Aabpara police stations.
Moreover, street crimes in the evening and during nighttime have also become common despite police patrolling in most of the areas of the federal capital. The residents complained about being robbed on gun point in G-8 G-9, G-10, G-11, I-9, I-10 sectors and suburban areas of Islamabad but the police seem helpless.
In a recent incident, a man was killed while his son was shot and injured on resisting a robbery attempt in Sector G-8 in the jurisdiction of Margalla police station. According to details, wife and daughter of Abdul Qayyum Sedal were being robbed on gun point outside their house, when he and his son came out of their house. Abdul Qayyum Sedal and his son tried to resist, but the robbers opened fire on them and fled away. They were shifted to hospital where Qayyum succumbed to his injuries.
