SRINAGAR, Dec 19 (Online): India' s Defense Ministry said 196 cease-fire violations were recorded this year along the line of control (LoC) in Kashmir.
The figures were given by India's Defense Minister A K Antony in a written reply to the upper house of Indian parliament.
"Until Dec. 15, a total of 196 cease-fire violations were recorded," reads the official statement quoting Antony. "Last year there were 93 such violations along the LoC by Pakistan in 2012."
LoC is a de facto border that divides Kashmir into India and Pakistan controlled parts.
"All violations of cease-fire are taken up with the Pakistan military authorities at the appropriate level through established mechanism of hotline messages, flag meetings as well as weekly talks between the DGMOs (Director Generals of Military Operations) of India and Pakistan," the statement said. "There has been significant reduction in the incidents of cease-fire violations following telephonic talks between the director generals of military operations (DGMOs) on Oct. 25 and 29 this year."
The DGMOs of the two countries are scheduled to meet on Dec. 24.
