Senate body asks PN to hand over land to Gawadar port authority

ISLAMABAD, Dec 19 (Online): The Senate Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping Thursday decided that Pakistan Navy should handover 584 acres of land to Gawadar port authority.
The Committee which was chaired by Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo heard the statements of all sides and directed Pakistan Navy to vacate 584 acres of land and hand over it to Gawadar port authorities.
The committee also directed government of Balochistan to arrange 1000 acres of land for Pakistan Navy as a substitute adding the Ministry of Ports and Shipping will pay the cost of land to Balochistan government.
The committee discussed in detail to resolve land dispute and vowed to develop the Gawadar port at any cost because it is the biggest project in the country’s history.
The senate body urged the Federal government to direct Gawadar port authority to initiate developmental projects and take the possession of 84 acres of land of Pakistan Navy.
It is pertinent to mention here that dispute of 584 acres of land was started between Pakistan Navy and Gawadar port authority, a few years back due to which development work at Gawadar port had not been started.
The Committee discussed in detail the issues pertaining to the operational aspects of Gawadar, problems in the way of handing over the land which has been bone of contention between various institutions.
Gawadar port can contribute a lot in development of the Pakistan’s economy once it’s fully operational, the committee discussed.
The meeting was attended by senators, Naseema Ihsan, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Nasir, Malik Muhammad Rafiq, secretary ministry of port and shipping Habeeb Ullah, chairman Gawadar Port Authority, Navy administration and member board of revenue.
