Eid Milad-un-Nabi: Cellular services to be suspended in various cities

KARACHI/LAHORE/PESHAWAR Jan 13 (Online): Authorities have finalized security plan for Eid Milad un Nabi (S.A.W) which will be celebrated tomorrow (Tuesday) across the country with religious enthusiasm and solemnity.

Officials said closure of cellular phone services has been recommended for various towns of the country, with ban on pillion riding already imposed in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other cities as part of the security plan.

In Peshawar, the entry of afghan refugees has been banned. Mobile phones are likely to remain silent on Tuesday in sensitive districts of the KPK province.

In Karachi, the pillion riding has been banned till Jan 15. Over 5000 security men have been deployed in the metropolis to provide security to central Milad procession and other congregations elsewhere in the city. Cellular phone services will also remain closed from dawn to dusk.

In Punjab, the cellular services will only be suspended in Rawalpindi district where the district administration has banned pillion riding. With the help of CCTV cameras, strict surveillance is being carried out in Lahore, Multan and other towns of Punjab.

In Quetta, over 3000 personnel of police, FC and Rangers have been deployed, with Pakistan Army also put on high alert to face any untoward incident.

Various religious, social and cultural organizations are finalizing their programmes to organize Milad and Seerat gatherings where speakers will highlight various aspects of the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet.

Mosques‚ homes‚ plazas‚ roads and all kinds of buildings will be decorated with green flags‚ colourful buntings‚ and fancy lights, a sign of great reverence and devotion.

There will be a public holiday in Pakistan on Tuesday whereas the Sindh government has announced an additional holiday on Monday.
