Senate body annoyed over slow pace of development work in road development in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD, Sep 16 (Online): The Senate body on Finance has recommended the Secretary EAD, Finance, Planning and development and Auditor General of Pakistan to ensure their presence in the meeting to streamline things related to delay in disbursement of funds for projects in Balochistan.

The meeting of the Sub-committee of Standing committee on Finance the Revenue held under the convene ship of Senator Fateh Muhammad Hasni and largely resented the snail pace of work in road development projects in the Balochistan.

The committee said that projects in the Balochistan are lingering from years and no one is concerned about it. Legislators said that they complained against officials for their non competency and irresponsible behavior but rather to initiate inquiry against them they were promoted in the NHA.

Senator Fateh Muhammad Hasni said that delay in the projects in Balochistan is agonizing for us and we will not keep mum over it and raise their voice in the Parliament. He said “we will use our own third way to ensure timely completion of the development projects”.

Senator Humayun Mandokhel commented that equity of projects is no where in the country as it is practiced in the world, adding that, National Highway Authority (NHA) and Ministry of Finance should focus on it.

The senate body resented delay in submission of PC-4 of Makran Coastal highway and directed the Chairman NHA to submit complete report regarding it in two weeks else the committee will hold inquiry over the project. The committee directed Chairman NHA to give complete details of PC-4 of the projects in two weeks in case of his failure the committee will take its action.

Chairman NHA appraise the committee that small amount has been allocated for the projects therefore work delays and actual cost of the project increased to many time higher. He said that NHA has issues of toll collection with FWO and in this regard a meeting will be held between Secretary Communication and DG FWO.

Ministry of Communication, Planning and development and NHA had different statistics regarding the allocation for Makran coastal highway and three departments were different opinions over the current status of the project.
The Committee said that departments have different opinions so on which they should believe that it is right? The committee asked Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) to come in the next meeting and inform the committee about the current status.

To another project of Kalat-Quetta-Chamman, the committee on Finance said that project director who was responsible behind slow pace of work at the project was promoted to General Manager Balochistan.
