Nine Nato containers torched, driver killed

KALAT, Sep 13 (INP): At least nine North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) oil tankers were torched during an attack in the Sohrab district of Balochistan on Friday.
According to the police, the oil tankers were incinerated when unknown motorcyclists targeted them with rockets in the Sohrab area near Kalat.
Police moreover said one of the drivers of the oil tankers was killed the attack. Meanwhile, levies and police personnel cordoned off the area but no arrests were made as the gunmen escaped from the scene immediately after the attack.
According to security sources, the tankers were carrying fuel and military hardware for Nato forces in Afghanistan, were parked outside a local hotel in Sorab area when a group of armed men fired rockets, followed by intense firing. As a result, a few tankers caught fire that eventually engulfed nearby containers. A driver was also killed in the attack.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot soon after the incident and extinguished the blaze after few hours effort. The armed men managed to flee from the scene after carrying out the attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility until the filing of this report.
Sources said that the Afghanistan-bound containers were coming from Karachi.
Levies and police personnel cordoned off the area for hunting the culprits.
