1100 computer labs set-up in ICT, other areas to promote IT education

ISLAMABAD, Sep 18 (APP): Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has established around 1100 computer labs in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and provincial areas to promote IT education among students.
The basic objective of imparting IT education was to create unprecedented possibilities for sustainable human and economic development.
An official at the Ministry while enumerating the achievements made so far on Wednesday said 5100 IT graduates were provided internship in different companies while 11 different segments of IT industry were studied and analyzed to improve efficiency.
Moreover, the Ministry provided assistance to 12 software companies for certification of ISO 27001 (IT Security Standard) and certification on CMMI level 2 and above to 23 companies.
Provision of IT training to 2000 government employees and 5000 end users was another achievement of the Ministry.
It has also provided automation services to 50 industrial units in four industrial sectors including ready-made garments, automobile parts and textile.
Virtual University of Pakistan has been set-up which is providing modern distance learning through Internet and TV while 12 IT Parks have been set up in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
Similarly, E-Office application has been developed to automate all the Federal Ministries and Departments while three tele-medicine centers have been launched at Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi,Jinnah Postgraduate Center Karachi and Mayo Hospital Lahore.
Due to efforts, export figures for software are also showing positive results.
