QESCO arrears against defaulters increase to Rs. 132 billion

QUETTA: The arrears of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) on account of electricity bills against the defaulters have reached up to Rs. 132 billion in Balochistan.
According to the sources of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), the defaulters are included different departments of the federal and provincial governments as well as agriculture, commercial and domestic consumers.
Over Rs. 115 billion are outstanding against the agriculture consumers while the subordinate departments of the provincial government are under debt of around Rs. 8 billion and the federal government departments have to pay around Rs. 740 million. Moreover, there are over Rs. 8.2 billion outstanding against the domestic, commercial and other consumers in the province, the sources of QESCO confirmed.
The defaulting departments are included: Public Health Engineering (Rs. 4.82 billion), Balochistan police (Rs. 258 million), WASA (Rs. 77.4 million), Governor House (Rs. 4.8 million), Chief Minister House (Rs. 3 million), Education department (over Rs. 1.789 billion), Health (Rs. 520 million), Social Welfare department (Rs. 21.5 million), Balochistan Local Government and Rural Development (Rs. 59 million), Balochistan Planning and Development (Rs. 3.9 million), Balochistan Communication and Works (Rs. 47.7 million), Prisons department (Rs. 19.2 million), Agriculture department (Rs. 49.6 million), Food department (Rs. 18.6 million), Forests and Wildlife department (Rs. 8.8 million), Irrigation department (Rs. 49.6 million), Livestock and Dairy Development (Rs. 19.7 million), Balochistan Veterinary (Rs. 13.5 million), Balochistan Building department (Rs. 49 million), Balochistan stadiums (Rs. 5.6 million), Population planning department (Rs. 6.2 million),
Treasury department (Rs. 9.4 million), besides others.
Needless to mention here is that the issue of non-payment of the electricity bills and dues had been taken by the Chief Executive Officer of QESCO with the provincial high ups in light of the special directives of the federal government, but to no avail, as mentioned by the QESCO sources.
As a result, the company is experiencing severe financial crisis.
So, it has been decided to suspend the power supply to the defaulters disconnecting their connections, the QESCO sources informed.
Moreover, it has also been decided to enhance the length of electricity load shedding in the areas where recovery of the electricity dues is not being made by the consumers to the company.
