QUETTA: Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) is facing the electricity shortfall of 1,170 megawatt in the province.
This was informed by the spokesman of QESCO here.
According to the spokesman, the total requirement of electricity in the province is 1,650 megawatt (except Makran) while available electricity is around 480 megawatt.
The shortfall of the 1,170 megawatt electricity is being met by observing load shedding in different areas of the province under the load management.
As per the schedule, daily 4-7 hour load shedding is being observed in Quetta city while 8-10 hour load shedding is being observed in different timing in the district headquarters, the spokesman mentioned.
Moreover, electricity is being supplied to agriculture feeders in the rural areas for 4-5 hours in different timing.
The QESCO spokesman also said that the electricity is being supplied to all areas of the province as per routine.
However, the consumers have been appealed to consume electricity only at the time of need.
It has also been appealed to the consumers to switch off the unnecessary electric appliances so as to ensure the smooth supply of electricity.
While on the other hand, the Zamindar Action Committee (ZAC) Balochistan has also announced to stage sit-in in front of the Governor’s House and Chief Minister’s Secretariat on January 19 as a mark of protest against lengthy power load shedding and their other related issues.
As per the announcement, the zamindars from all over the province would gather in front of the Governor’s House and Chief Minister’s Secretariat and stage dharna to press the government to resolve the issue of power load shedding and subsidy on the agriculture tube wells in the province.
A leader of ZAC, Abdul Rehman Bazai said that the zamindars are forced to lodge strong protest against the issue of load shedding in the province particularly in its rural areas.
The agriculture sector is severely affected due to the load shedding of electricity being observed in the province, Bazai regretfully pointed out.
If the issue was not resolved even after the protest sit-in, then the shutter down call would be given for Quetta city, the ZAC leader said adding that we have planned to give call of shutter down for January 23.
