4905 criminals nabbed; looted items worth of Rs 257 millon recovered in 2013

ISLAMABAD, September 19(Online): Islamabad Police emerged successfully against criminal elements involved in crimes of various nature and arrested a total of 4905 criminals this year besides recovering looted items with worth of Rs. 257 millions, huge cache of contraband and weapons from their possession.

Sixty-six murders were traced this year besides arrest of 143 alleged killers. Out of these assassination cases, 30 cases were blind murders, which were also traced successfully while seven cases of last year were also resolved.

20 dacoits were nabbed during efforts of Islamabad police to curb criminal activities who confessed their involvement in six dacoity incidents and a recovery of Rs. 8.1 million was also made from them.

One hundred and twenty five (125) gangsters were arrested who had been involved in snatching valuables at gun point and a recovery of Rs. 19 million was also made from them.

Similarly, 74 burglars were apprehended besides recovery of Rs. 7.7 million from them while 474 thieves were arrested and stolen items worth of Rs. 47 million were recovered from them.

Expediting the efforts against auto-thieves and car jackers, Islamabad police apprehended 166 car thieves and recovered 113 stolen and 144 tempered cars from them.

Most of these cars were stolen from other districts and value of these cars was Rs. 162.4 millions.

Likewise, 47 motorcycle thieves were arrested and 29 bikes worth Rs. 1.3 million were recovered from them.

A total of 296 proclaimed offenders wanted to police in crime cases of heinous nature and 343 court absconders were also nabbed during this period.

In crackdown against drug pushers, bootleggers and those possessing illegal weapons, Islamabad police recovered 768-kilogram hashish, 26-kilogram heroin, 20-kilogram opium, 12,700 wine bottles, 34 Kalashnikovs, 37 rifles, 96 guns, 695 pistol and 15, 500 rounds.

Thirty-eight snatched vehicles have been also recovered in 2013 and perpetrators of this crime were also arrested.

During the on-going year, 3080 cases were also disposed off and their challans were submitted into courts after successful investigation on them.

With an objective to ensure improvement in policing affairs, Islamabad police took several steps to come up to the expectations of the people and enhance output.

Decent and well-behaved staff has been appointed at reporting rooms of police station to promptly address the grievances of complainants while police employees having good reputation have been also assigned duties at police pickets.

IGP Islamabad Sikandar Hayat has stressed for effective steps to curb crime and activities of anti-social elements.

He urged to adopt decent attitude for success in policing affairs and said complainants should be behaved in polite manner because this gesture can address their grievances to a maximum level.

The IGP said that Islamabad police force is committed to provide protection and foolproof security.

He exhorted to use available resources with Islamabad police force honestly for the better output and also for decent attitude with officers and subordinates.

Sikandar Hayat said Islamabad police force is cognizant of challenges and every problem will be countered through capacity building of the force and cooperation of the community.
