Defense Secretary inducted in NDU Hall of Fame

WASHINGTON, 19 Sep (Online): Defence Secretary Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik has been conferred the honor of Induction in a formal ceremony at National Defense University, Fort McNair, Washington D.C. Hall of Fame.
The “Hall of Fame†is a prestigious and visible means of honoring NDU graduates who have attained, through merit, the highest position in their Country’s Armed Forces or government; this being the first ever recognition for any Pakistani Government Official.
Speaking on occasion, Senior Director NDU, John Carlton said that NDU was proud of achievements of Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik regarding his graduation from NDU-USA from June 2002 till July 2003 and was delighted at his return to the campus.
Asif Yasin Malik, a graduate of Pakistan Army Command and Staff College, holding a Master’s degree from National Defense University, Islamabad, graduated as an International Fellow at National Defense University Washington DC and earned Master’s degree in Strategic Resource Management in 2003. He was the Class President of the International Fellows during the Fellowship.
Secretary Defense Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik remarked that “I am honored to be inducted in the NDU International Fellows Hall of Fame '; while he also expressed his thanks to the NDU for providing a Pakistani, the opportunity to be inducted on the prestigious platform.
During the induction ceremony Pakistani flag was hoisted and guest speakers including US Senators, Commanders of European Union, and former Chairman Joint Chief’s USA gave key note addresses in different sessions of the ceremony.
Defense Secretary Asif Yasin Malik was honored by Major General Gregg F. Martin, President NDU, whence Members of International Fellows Hall of Fame, Alumni, Course participants along with families and friends of Inductees and senior officials of Pakistan Embassy in Washington, also attended the ceremony.
Asif Yasin Malik’s photograph with his name inscribed on the International Fellows’ Hall of Fame plaque has been permanently displayed in the Hall of Fame area of Marshall Hall, NDU at Fort McNair in Washington DC; a unique personal honor for the General, which has also greatly enhanced the stature of Pakistan and its Armed Forces amongst comity of nations.
Asif Yasin Malik assumed his current position as Secretary of Defense of Pakistan on 28 July 2012. He joined Pakistan Army in 1973, as an infantry officer with extensive experience of diverse command and staff assignments, including command of Peshawar based prestigious 11 Corps spearheading Pakistan military's operations against terrorists in FATA and KPK.
He completed his tenure and retired from active service in December 2011.
