QUETTA: The Mayor of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, Dr. Kalimullah Khan Kakar has pledged to ensure implementation on the Quetta Master Plan (QMP) in transparent manner in order to resolve the traffic as well as other civic issues being confronted by the Quetta city.
He was presiding over a meeting on the Master Plan here the other day.
Those who were present in the meeting were: Deputy Mayor of QMC, Muhammad Younas Baloch, Deputy Commissioner Quetta, Daoowd Khilji, SP Traffic, Saifullah Khan, DSP Traffic, Muhammad Javed, Secretary Regional Transport Authority, Amanullah Khan Panezai, Chief Officer, Metropolitan Corporation, Attaullah Baloch, General Manager National Highway Authority, Noorul Hasan, Director Technical, Imran Durrani, Abdul Jaffar, senior officials of the Urban Planning and Development, Municipal Officer, Planning and Development and other concerned departments and civic agencies.
The meeting discussed different issues facing the Quetta city and its dwellers mainly due to the traffic issues, congestion of the roads, street of lights, etc.
A committee was formed to resolve the traffic issues on priority basis.
Moreover, certain decisions were made during the meeting as well. According to a decision made, the show rooms not having the parking space for their vehicles would be closed.
Regarding the rickshaws plying on the city roads without the valid permits, it was decided to impound the same during thorough checking being made.
It was also decided to check the route permits and fitness of the local route buses in the metropolis.
The local buses without route permits and fitness certificates would also be impounded and no one would be spared in this regard, the meeting decided further.
The meeting expressed concern over digging of roads by various departments and civic agencies in different areas of the city.
It was decided to write to all the departments to seek prior permission from the QMC for digging of the roads if needed so in any part of the city.
The no objection certificate (NOC) would have to be acquired from QMC for the purpose of digging in the city, the meeting insisted.
As per the Traffic Improvement Plan prepared by the Traffic Police, it was also decided to declare different roads of the city one-way.
Meanwhile, the meeting also reviewed the Prime Minister’s Quetta Package. In this context, it was decided that all the members would submit their proposals in the Urban Development and Planning department.
The meeting also decided to approach the NHA for expansion of the Sariab Road (from Sariab railway crossing to Old Sariab Custom) on the pattern of Airport Road as well as installation of the street lights.
It was also decided to recommend to NHA to build Western by-pass on the pattern of double road.
