QUETTA: All the necessary preparations have been made for first phase of the forthcoming Local Bodies’ elections to be held in Quetta and Loralai cantonment boards in the province.
In all 33 candidates are in the competition run for the elections to be held on general seat in five wards in Quetta Cant Board while eight candidates are contesting elections in two wards of the Loralai Cant Board.
Two candidates have already been elected unopposed on the two seats of Zhob Cant Board.
There are a total of 25,846 registered voters in the Quetta Cant Board while in Loralai Cant Board, 1,187 registered voters would use the right of franchise in the elections.
Tough competition is likely in the Ward No. 05 of the Quetta Cant Board where in all 12 candidates are in the competition run. The total registered voters in the said constituency are 3,484.
In the Ward No. 01 of the Cant Board, there are six candidates contesting elections. In Ward No. 02, there are five candidates, in Ward No. 03 there are seven candidates and there are three candidates in Ward No. 04.
For the elections of Quetta Cant Board, as many as 21 polling stations have been set up at different venues. The polling stations have been set up in the Fire Brigade station in Shahbaz Town near Jamia Masjid, Balochistan Boy Scouts Association’s headquarter, Hasan Musa Inter College, Government Boys Primary School Labour Colony, Nawan Killi, Government Girls Primary School, Labour Colony, Garrison Academy, Musa road, FG Middle School, FG Girls High School, FG Boys High School Saeed Ahmed road, Government Inter-Girls College Jinnah Town.
While on the other hand, a total of eight polling stations (four each for male and female voters) have been set up for the elections to be held in Loralai Cant Board.
Regarding preparations, the Provincial Election Commissioner (PEC) Balochistan, Syed Sultan Bayazeed told that the polling staff has been posted for the LB elections in the Cantonment Boards of Quetta and Loralai.
He said that currently the training of the polling staff is being done. Moreover, the polling material including the ballot papers have also been made available to the concerned Returning Officers.
Once the first phase of LB elections in the Cantonment boards, the second phase would be held. In second phase, the election on the reserved seats of women, minorities, peasants and workers would be conducted.
