Peshawar, September 23 (ONLINE): Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Monday called for convening a special session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to express solidarity with the Christian community in the wake of the deadly twin suicide attacks at a church in Peshawar.

Addressing a public meeting in Mardan district, he condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families. He expressed grief at the loss of innocent lives and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.

On the occasion, Pakistan Muslim League local leader Shad Ali Khan announced joining QWP along with scores of his supporters and family members.

Aftab Sherpao said the incident had grieved the entire nation and the Muslims equally shared the grief of their Christian brothers. He said no stone should be left unturned to provide protection to the minorities.

The QWP leader said the security of the places of worship should be beefed up to avoid the repetition of such incidents in the future. He said the minorities would not be abandoned at this critical juncture.

He said that such incident would stymie efforts to bring peace and would sully the country’s reputation at the international level.

Aftab Sherpao said the government should make arrangements for holding the local government elections. He said his party would actively take part in the local government polls.

The QWP leader asked the federal government to help the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to enhance the capacity of its law-enforcing agencies so that they could maintain law and order in an effective manner.

He said his party is committed to raising voice for the rights of the Pakhtuns at every forum as they were faced with a host of problems. He said QWP would play its role in restoring peace in the region.
