PESHAWAR, Sep 24 (Online): Peshawar High Court (PHC) Tuesday called for legislation to combat the menace of illegal SIMs.

While hearing the case relating to illegal SIMs and their sale, the court said it should not be forced to cancel the licenses of cellular companies, adding that the country was witnessing devastation, while the companies were running after the dollars.

Justice Dost Muhammad during the hearing remarked that SIMs were being sold like potatoes. One person had 52 SIMs, while nearly one million Afghan SIMs were being used in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa only.

CJ PHC said court should not be forced to cancel the licenses of cellular companies, devastation is everywhere in country while companies are running behind the dollars.

Pakistan Telecommunication DG told the court that talks relating to illegal SIMs were underway with NADRA.

Thereon, PHC CJ remarked that NADRA was itself being destroyed and the court directed for legislation to combat the menace of illegal SIMs.
