'AIOU plays key role in promotion women education'

Islamabad, September 24 (Online): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is playing unprecedented role for promotion of women education across Pakistan and efforts its level best for uplifting living standard of women through quality education.
This was stated by the Vice-Chancellor, Aizahra University Iran during her visit to AIOU. She was accompanied by S.Susan Marandi, Director, Inter-University and International Academic Affairs, Aizahra University, Iran.
The two-member Iranian delegation was received and welcomed by the Chairperson, Department of Women and Gender Studies, AIOU, Prof. Dr. Rifat Haq.
Dr. Anisa lauded the moves and initiatives of the Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi for eliminating illiteracy by providing equal access to quality education though setting-up of model study centers and regional campuses across the country.
While briefing the Iranian delegation, Chairperson, Department of Women and Gender Studies, Prof. Dr. Riffat Haque said that AIOU under dynamic leadership of its Vice-Chancellor, AIOU Prof. Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi has launched various projects for eradicating illiteracy i.e. Open Schooling System, Educate a Child Scheme, Earn to Learn Scheme, ten schemes for students etc.
She said that the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sangi has focused all his attention towards promotion of women education in the country, varied women programmes, a record number of facilities for female students have been undertaken during the last three years, accordingly the confidence of female students raised at vast level and the ratio of female students is increasing rapidly which reached 58% of the total enrollment, he added.
Dr. Riffat further said that AIOU has also launched a plan of open schooling system to provide middle and matric level educational facilities to drop-out females students on country-wide basis and around one million female students to be provided primary level education.
The open-schooling project was introduced to educate the dropout female girls and women who couldn’t continue their studies, because of financial or social constraints, she added.
Dr. Anisa appreciated the of Open-schooling system of AIOU and said that this project will increase the literacy rate and definitely will be a roadmap for promotion of women education in Pakistan.
She expresses her hope for joint-venture with AIOU for promotion of Iranian’s women education and uplifting their living standards on the outline of AIOU.
She also visited the Radio/TV studios of the University where Dr. Riffat Haque said that AIOU is planning to extend its existing live FM radio transmission to its campuses in all major cities across the country.
She said that setting-up a high definition video broadcasting studio at the Main campus of University is also under-consideration.
Dr. Riffat Haque also briefed the Iranian delegation about the academic programmes, initiatives, achievements and planning of the Department of Gender and Women Studies for the empowerment of women.
