Crack Down against spurious drugs, medical stores soon

QUETTA Nov 1 (PPI): A crackdown would be conducted against spurious drugs and medical stores working without licenses in Balochistan. Action would also be taken against drug inspectors for issuing licenses and pharmacists for purchasing these licences.
This was stated by Additional Secretary health Abdullah Jan while addressing seminar in connection with Celebration of Global Breastfeeding Week 2015 organised by Provincial Nutrition Cell Govt of Balochistan supported by UNICEF here Sunday.
He said due to malnutrition a child dies every minute. Parent should save their children by feeding mother’s milk form birth as it is the bet for children. Mother milk is a natural process which started in mother’s body soon after birth of child. It has all the nutrients.
Earleir Sadiq Baloch Deputy Programme Manager Nutrition Programme, Dr Ghulam Mustafa Khan Medical Officer Provincial Nutrition Cell. Dr Mustafa Jaffar Associate Professor SPH Quetta also spoke in various aspects of breastfeeding.
Abdullah Jan said except cancer mother’s milk can be given to child in all diseases such as TB, Hepatitis. He said first milk is of great importance. It works like anti biotic for the new born and mother.
He said annually 0.8 million children die in Pakistan. Of these 35 percent children die of malnutrition. He said Health Department was focusing on MNCH and Nutrition. He said infant feeding board has also been formed which would work at district and provincial level. He said we have taken immediate action against illegal and suspected drugs He said seminars were held at different districts of Balochistan.
He agreed that there were spurious medicines and medical stores were working without licenses. Some medical stores were working on other pharmacist’s licenses. He said teams have been constituted to undertake crack down against spurious medicines and medical stores running without licenses.
He asked media to support such activities.
