Additional Secretary Health: Govt. playing its part in creating awareness about breastfeeding

QUETTA: The Additional Secretary for Health, Abdullah Khan has stated that the provincial government is playing wholehearted role in creating awareness about masses about breastfeeding in the province.
He was addressing the provincial seminar for media personal arranged by the Nutritional Cell of Health Department Government of Balochistan in connection with the Global Breastfeeding Week here at a local restaurant the other day.
The Medical Officer of Nutrition Cell, Dr. Ghulam Mustafa, Associate Professor Dr. Mushtaq Jaffar, Deputy Programme Manager, Nutrition, Dr. Sadiq Baloch and others also addressed the seminar. The senior media persons from print and electronic media attended the seminar.
The Additional Secretary Health maintained that the government is committed to resolve the issues related to the nutrition of the mother and children. However, there is a dire need to create awareness among the people in this regard.
Media’s role is vital in creating mass awareness about the breastfeeding and nutrition issues, he stressed adding he urged the media persons to come forward and play their effective part in this regard.
He mentioned that the Nutrition Cells of the Health Department is playing its role by arranging awareness sessions at the district level. Awareness seminars have so far been arranged in 27 districts of the province while the process is continued in other parts as well, adding he mentioned.
Addressing the seminar, other experts spoke at length about importance of the breastfeeding particularly for new born babies.
They said that it is the right of the new born to have breastfeeding so one should not be deprived of one’s first right. From medical point of view, it is very important for mothers to breastfeed their children, the speakers stressed further.
