PAL Quetta celebrates birthday: Glowing tributes paid to Poet of the East

QUETTA: The great thinker and Poet of the East, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal was remembered at his 138th birthday here the other day.
The ceremony was arranged by the Pakistan Academy of Letters Quetta marking his birth anniversary.
The prominent literary personality, intellectual and researcher, Dr. Abdul Rehman Brahvi was the chief guest. Also present among prominent on the occasion were the senior bureaucrat, writer and poet, Sarwar Javed, Arif Zia, Regional Director of PAL, Afzal Murad, Waheed Zaheer, Zahid Baloch, Imdad Ali, Hamza Khan and others.
They spoke at length over life, poetry and philosophy of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
The speakers paid glowing tributes to the Poet of the East.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest, Dr. Abdul Rehman Brahvi particularly highlighted different aspects of Islamic ideology of Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
He said that the living nations make their future bright by making base the great achievements and successes of their elders. He said that Allama Iqbal’s poetry is universal and the message for the entire humanity in it makes us proud.
He said that we have to pay homage to the great poet instead of politicizing his birth anniversary. He also stressed that we need to think that why the public holiday on his birth anniversary was cancelled.
Sarwar Javed in his address said that we need to understand the message of Allama Iqbal and take a guideline from it to address social, economic and other issues of the society.
He underlined the need to generalize his message particularly among the younger generation.
Arif Zia said that Allama Iqbal was a thinker and poet who had depth and philosophy in his poetry.
Other speakers said that teachings of Allama Iqbal are like a beacon of light to maintain tolerance, peace and stability in the society.
“We must create a society according to the vision of the poet of the East, who gave the idea of separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent where they can practice their Islamic values and culture,†they emphasized. Iqbal’s philosophical and human approach to save the Muslims from degradation, deprivation and destitute living is still a source of strength and guidance for us, they maintained.
