Polio immunization campaign enters second day in Balochistan

QUETTA: The three-day polio immunization campaign remained continued on second consecutive day, Wednesday all over the province including Quetta district.
The sources of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for polio eradication and vaccination told that although the campaign is continued on the second consecutive successfully, however, the intermittent raining somehow affected it partially in different areas.
The anti-polio teams faced problems to have access to the targeted children in their door-to-door visit during the campaign, the EOC sources mentioned.
Still, we are determined to achieve the desired target of the campaign in the remaining days. While Thursday (today) is the last day of the three-day campaign, it would be extended till Friday (tomorrow) to cover the left over children, the sources maintained.
Needless to mention here is that As far the campaign, it is targeted to vaccinate 24,72,616 children below five years of age during the forthcoming immunization campaign in the province.
Dr. Syed Saifur Rehman told that all the necessary arrangements have been completed for the immunization campaign in Balochistan. As many as 6,603 mobile teams have been formed for the campaign, he mentioned adding that there would be 796 fixed teams in addition to 321 transit teams formed for the campaign all over the province.
Moreover, the anti-polio drops would also be administered to the children at 46 permanent transit points in the province, the Coordinator of EOC informed further.
As far the security arrangements, Dr. Saifur Rehman told that the Police, Levies Force and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel would perform the security responsibilities.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner Sibi Division, Ghulam Ali Baloch has described polio immunization unavoidable for saving future of our younger generation.
He was speaking on the occasion of administration of anti-polio drops to the children in Sibi.
Also present on the occasion were the District Police Officer (DPO) Sibi, Mir Anwar Khetran, Divisional Director Health, Dr. Nazir Ahmed Khawajakhail, District Health Officer, Dr. Manzoor Baloch, Chairman Municipal Committee Sibi, Dawood Khan Rind, Director Development, Waqaruz Zaman Kayani, Medical Superintedent of Civil Hospital Sibi, Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Hashmi, Dr. Mian Noor Ahmed, Dr. Lal Magsi, Dr. Mohan Das and other concerned.
They also administered the anti-polio vaccine to the children as part of three-day polio immunization campaign launched in Sibi Division as elsewhere in the province.
The Commissioner Sibi said that polio is more fatal disease than cancer, so we should take it serious and adopt preventive measures to rid of it.
He also pledged to make Sibi Division polio-free through the concerted and coordinated efforts. He noted with contentment that no polio case has been reported in the Division, which shows excellent performance of the Health department and all concerned.
He urged the parents to play their national obligation by getting their children below five years of age administered against the disease.
He directed to the anti-polio teams to ensure immunization of the children fully so as to achieve the given target. He also directed to the concerned to ensure full security of the teams engaged in the task.
