HEC has given higher education institutions a focus: Zahid Hamid

ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (Online): Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid appreciating the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for encouraging and promoting university research has said that quality research deserves recognition.

On Wednesday while addressing at 3rd Outstanding Research Awards ceremony for 2010-11at HEC Secretariat Islamabad, he said HEC has given higher education institutions a focus and encouraged faculty members by granting scholarships.

Awarding 32 researchers in five categories, Zahid Hamid stated, “You are a role model for your colleagues and students. Hope you will be involved more energetically to boost research culture in your institutions”.

He said after creating the research facilities and inducting qualified researchers in the universities, the next step of HEC should be focused on the priority research areas by inventing solutions to problems that face our society.

Categories in which researchers were awarded include Best Research Paper, Best Young Research Scholar, Best Innovator, Best Book Publication, and Lifetime Academic Achievement.

Karachi, Dr. Osman Hasan, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer
Science, NUST, and Dr. Muhammad Usman Awan Institute of Quality and
Technology Management, University of the Punjab

Best Book Publication Awards were won by Dr. Shoaib Khan, Department of
Computer Engineering, College of EME, NUST, Dr. Wasim Ahmed Khan, Faculty
of Mechanical Engineering, GIK Institute, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Chawla,
Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of the Punjab, Dr. Ilhan Niaz,
Department of History, Quaid-i-Azam University, and Dr. Syed Nawab Haider
Naqvi, FUUAST School of Economics.

Lifetime Academic Achievement Award went to Dr. Jamil Anwar, Vice
Chancellor, Lahore Garrison University, Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, University
College of Agriculture, Sargodha, and Dr. Rasul Bakhsh Rais, Department of
Humanities and Social Sciences, LUMS

On this occasion Executive Director HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, and Director General (R&D) Dr. Mazhar Saeed were also present.
