Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday announced appointment of Sarfraz Ahmed as Captain of Pakistan T20 cricket team.

Sarfraz was appointed Vice Captain of ODI and T20 teams last year. He takes over the captaincy of the shortest form of the game from Shahid Afridi whose term as captain came to an end after Pakistan's disastrous campaign of ICC World T20 2016. Afridi was also criticized after Pakistan's below par performance in Asia T20 Cup.

“I spoke to Sarfraz this morning and conveyed to him that he was our natural choice for this position. His appointment is open-ended. I wish him good luck in his new role,” Chairman PCB Shaharyar Khan said.

Sarfraz on the occasion said that it was a big day for him and he try his level best to prove the faith put in him by the board.

“I will try my level best and will not let down the nation,” Sarfraz said.

He further said that he has learnt a lot from Afridi's example as captain and would try to apply those good things he learnt and would avoid his mistakes.

Meanwhile, Afridi welcomed the decision to promote his deputy as captain and said that Sarfraz is a fighter and wished him good luck.
