PRCS sends relief for 7000 quake victims; heli drops health teams to affected areas

ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (Online): The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has dispatch non-food items to support 7000 Balochistan earthquake victims while health teams were heli dropped with life saving medicines in the affected areas worth PKR 50 million.

The non-food items include family tent, blanket, tarpaulin sheet, stove, kitchen set, hurricane lamp, mosquito net, CGI Sheet, shelter tool kit, Jerry Cane and hygiene kit.

The initial support was sent on the directions of PRCS Chairman Major General (Retd) Ch Muhammad Nawaz Khan.

PRCS Chairman Major General (Retd) Ch Muhammad Nawaz Khan on the occasion said that PRCS will make all efforts to mitigate the suffering of the victims.

He said that the PRCS will continue supporting the victims and more relief in terms of household and health will be provided on need basis.

He said that the PRCS stands with the victims of the earthquake and will stay in the area till the rehabilitation of the victims.

General Nawaz Khan also directed the officials to spare no effort in providing the relief to the victims within available resources and stressed the need for well-coordinate efforts so that maximum relief could be provided to the victims.

The PRCS Secretary General Dr Mahboob Sardar briefed the Chairman about the damages and request from the Balochistan branch for the victims.

The Secretary General said that soon after the earthquake struck, the PRCS Balochistan Branch sent National Disaster Response Trained members from its nearest disaster management cell in district Lasbela to the affected area.

Two disaster response teams (one from PRCS adjoining district Kharan and the other from PRCS adjoining district Gwadar) were also moved and deployed in the area.

He said that PRCS PHQ Quetta mobilized their disaster response trained members along with a health team and ambulances to Awaran.

PRCS Sindh branch also mobilized its resources and heli dropped health teams along with 2 truckloads of medicines in district Awaran.

Dr Mahboob Sardar said that the National Headquarters is coordinating with Balochistan Branch and all efforts are being made to provide relief to the victims.

He said that the Branch has been asked to provide maximum support to the victims and the NHQ will provide all out support in case of any further request from the branch.

The PRCS teams from National Headquarters and Balochistan Branch are in the affected areas and reaching to the victims with relief and health facilities.
