Violence in India's UP state claims 43 lives, left 43,000 homeless: Report

ISLAMABAD, Sept 14 (APP)- Communal violence-hit Muzaffar Nagar district of India's Uttar Pradesh state was calm for the fourth day, with Uttar Pradesh officials saying that the three days of violence had left over 43,000 people homeless.
A total of 43 people have been officially listed as killed in the violence, IRNA reported.
More than 43,000 people who fled their homes, primarily from
surrounding villages of the district, are being sheltered in the 38 relief camps hurriedly set up in the district, district authorities as saying.
The violence erupted last weekend after simmering discontent following
the harassment of a young woman on August 27 in a village of Muzaffar Nagar
district in which three people were killed.
Prominent among those who were arrested in the case of violence,
included senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kalraj Mishra and Civil Aviation Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh. Both were released after some hours.
Leaders of all leading Muslim organizations unanimously demanded
forthwith dismissal of Akhilesh Yadav government and establishment of
president's rule in the state claiming that the incumbent government has
failed to control the deteriorating situation in trouble region and is
responsible for inciting violence and abetment.
