Another powerful quake hit Balochistan, 6 killed, several hurt

Quetta, Sept 28 (Online): At least six more people were killed while several others were wounded as another powerful quake measuring 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Balochistan’s earthquake-affected Awaran district on Saturday noon where Tuesday’s powerful tremor left nearly 400 people dead and thousands homeless.
Spokesman of Balochistan government Jan Balaidi told the media that dozens houses collapsed in Saturday quake in same areas which were badly damaged by Tuesday 7.8 magnitude quake.
Jan Balaidi confirmed six people have been killed so far while dozens other buried under wreckage of collapsed mud-houses.
He said rescue work was underway to rescue people in remote areas of Awaran district.
Jan Balaidi informed that dozens people sustained serious injuries in Saturday quake added that wounded have been shifted to emergency camps for medical treatment
Meanwhile, four children were injured in Jaccobabad, district of Sindh as roof of their house collapsed due to quake.
Pakistan Met office said the epicenter of 7.2 magnitude quake was some 104 kilometer in north from Awaran district of Balochistan and was 10 kilometers deep.
However US Geological Survey says the magnitude was recorded 6.8.
Saturday quake started at 12:34 pm and lasted for 15 to 20 seconds, it was so powerful that was felt in Quetta, Khuzdar, Gawadar, Pasheen, Panjgor and Sibi areas of Balochistan.
Session of Balochistan Assembly was adjourned for 5 minutes as assembly building in Quetta jolted for several seconds.
Tremors were also felt In Sindh province including its capital Karachi, Sukkar, Larkana, Hyderabad, Shikarpur and other cities and towns of the province.
Following the tremors, citizens rushed to open spaces fearing for their safety.

People quickly evacuated buildings and houses, reciting prayers, and spread great panic among them.
A day before magnitude 5.0 after shock felt in affected areas of Balochistan.
The Met department has said up to 16 aftershocks have so far been recorded in Balochistan areas.
On the other hand, rescue and relief operations are underway in Balochistan as tents‚ food items and medicine are being distributed among quake-hit people of Awaran and other areas of Balochistan.
