Less play, more controversies for Monty Panesar

London< sept 28 (Online): Monty Panesar has been in news recently for the wrong reasons. The left-arm spinner who scalped 17 wickets in the India-England series earlier this year, has been triggering controversies one after the other.
Panesar was involved in a fresh controversy when he was given a suspended ban until the end of the 2014 cricket season for threatening and intimidating behavior against Worcestershire player Ross Whiteley while playing for Essex earlier this month.
The 31-year-old spinner made the headlines last month after he was fined for urinating on night-club bouncers in Brighton on England`s south coast.
Panesar proved his worth as a world class spinner when England toured India earlier this year where he scalped 17 wickets. While England have a formidable spinner in Graeme Swann, Monty was included in England`s squad for the forthcoming Ashes tour of Australia as James Tredwell and another left-armer Simon Kerrigan failed to make an impact.
While the England Cricket Board (ECB) is keen to include Panesar in the squad, whether he can overshadow these controversies with hard work and determination is a question that is yet to be answered
