ISLAMABAD, September 27 (Online): Head of Cardiology Department at Shifa International Hospital (SIH) Dr. Asad Ali Saleem has urged masses to get regular heart checkup in order to avoid possible heart diseases that are gradually increasing day by day.

He was addressing a seminar here on Saturday organized to mark World Heart Day (WHD) that is being observed today (on Sunday) September 29.

Dr. Asad stressed on the need to ensure blood cholesterol level is under control.

He added that a specific amount of cholesterol is necessary for human body but when it exceeds from the required level, it creates plaque.

He said that this plaque is called atherosclerotic plaque, which narrows the human arteries.

Resultantly, the plaque obstructs smooth blood flow and causes clotting of the blood in artery. “It is a very serious condition as disturbed blood flow causes heart attack,” he warned.

Doctors, medical students, patients and people from all walks of life attended the timely organized informative session.

He urged the masses to keep a constant check on their blood cholesterol level.

Dr. Asad was of the view that patients should regularly consult their physicians and also get diet plan for keeping their cholesterol level as well as blood pressure under control.

He suggested that one should be very careful in consuming fats and salt as they were the two main causes of increasing cholesterol level and blood pressure.
