Twelve more killed in fresh earthquake in Balochistan

Quetta: At least 12 people have been reported killed as a major earthquake of 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted different parts of Balochistan and Sindh on Saturday. The new tremor struck 96 kilometers northeast of the district of Awaran at a depth of 14km according to the American Geological Survey.

“Twelve people have been killed in today’s earthquake in Mashkay Tehsil of Awaran”. Jan Muhammad Buledi the spokesman of Chief Minister Balochistan said.

The areas where the tremors were felt on Saturday noon included Quetta‚ Awaran‚ Khuzdar ,Kech‚ Panjgur‚ Jaffarabad‚ Naseerabad‚ Chaghi‚ Dera Allah Yar‚ Dalbandin‚ and some parts of Karachi.

Awaran, was shattered by a 7.8-magnitude quake on Tuesday which left more than 350 dead and over 100,000 people homeless. Meanwhile some sources in the area confirmed that Awaran was badly affected again with three villages bearing the brunt of the quake.

On the other hand an affected man from the Tuesday quake named Javed Dad told Via phone to The Balochistan Times that still the relief work was not started in the Dalay Bazar area of Gishkor, Awaran. “We have nothing till this time to eat and drink”. Javed dad said.

He said the relief workers were reached to their area on Saturday, while no relief goods have been distributed till this time.

The geological survey of America has said that this earthquake was an aftershock of the previous one. Moreover in Tuesday’s earthquake so far more than five hundred people are dead, while the figure for the injured is 765, provincial sources said. In Awaran alone 32,000 families are affected, while in Kech it is 5,000.
