ISLAMABAD Oct 2 (Online): Prime Minister's Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that Pakistan has effectively raised the issue of drone strike at UN forum with a view to building pressure of the international public opinion on the United States to change the policy.
Speaking in a program here, he said in his address to the UN General Assemblyé the Prime Minister emphasized that drone attacks constitute violation of the international law.
Sartaj Aziz said the UN Secretary-General himself has described drone attacks as violation of international humanitarian law.
The Advisor said he also raised the issue in a special session of the UN Security Council urging the international community to help get them stopped if it cared about protecting human rights.
To a question Sartaj Aziz said former President Pervez Musharraf had once said that there was verbal understanding with the United States on drone attacks but the present Government cannot accept anything that impinges upon the sovereignty of the country.
